Advanced Course and Special Topics

Let’s keep playing and learning in the water.  It is the most fun ever!  There is no one way to enjoy the water.  All of the following courses require completion of Foundations One or approval from a private lesson instructor.  It is recommended that you also have passed the 10-minute deep water safety swim.

Advanced Course

Front Crawl/freestyle: Learn the steps for the overarm stroke frequently associated with lap swimming for fitness.  Instructors for this course are on the deck to better view student progress and student swim in deep and shallow water.  Fins are highly recommended for this course.

Resting Strokes: Learn the strokes that have a glide for rest and easing through the water.  These strokes include breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.  These strokes can be used for lap swimming or casually enjoying a swim at the lake.

Recreational Swimming: Lap swimming is great for exercise and fitness but does not lend itself to socializing or being playful while in the water.

The Recreation Swim Class will give you the skills you want to have when playing in the water – think being on vacation, at a pool party, or at the lake in the summer.

Prerequisites

  • Completely comfortable with your face in the water
  • Front and back float without tension
  • Stand up from a front and back float without rushing
  • Can maneuver between the front and back

Open Water Preparation: Have you ever wondered how to make the bridge between the pool to open water?

The Open Water Prep Course teaches you how to go from your current skill level to enjoying open water experiences.  From how to keep yourself safe, to where do I begin (hint it is not out in the middle of the lake).

Lake Swim: Explore what it means to be safe and comfortable in these open water swims at Pritchard Beach Park (just a block from the Seattle Pool).

Snorkeling: Come and learn the basics of snorkeling with an Orca Instructor in the warm Seattle Pool. Here is your chance to learn how to fit your mask, clear your snorkel, and kick with the fins in an environment where you are already comfortable. Please come prepared with your own snorkel equipment, it will not be provided at the pool.
