Recently I did perhaps the hardest thing I’ve ever chosen to do.  It felt terrible, I cried, felt a little better than thought about it again just so I could cry some more.

In reflecting it reminds me of the moment when I was hugely pregnant and suddenly thought why on earth did I ever think this was a good idea.  There is no way to stop being pregnant without going through huge work and pain.  Yet I and so many others do it anyway.  We choose hard work and pain on purpose.

Once again, I choose to do the hard work and feel the pain when that baby goes off on his own.  It is so similar to how our journey started with so many unknowns. This is a great experiment that will be full of growth with some failures and a whole spectrum of feelings.

These kinds of big transitions (birth of children and leaving for college) are things we make small decisions* about and then go along for the ride.  (*note: for some getting pregnant is incredibly easy, but for many, it is a series of repeated challenges and obstacles that may or may not result in having a child. The idea of momentum after one decision is not an accurate description).

As hard as having a baby or having a child leave the home, ultimately these are easy changes because they have momentum of the life process behind them.  Creating a life you love is about having change on purpose, not just because you made one fun choice 9 months ago.

In the foundations of learning, we use the triangle or delta symbol.  It is the symbol of change.  In today’s video, I will use these symbols to understand the Motivation Triad and the three things that keep us stuck.  Change that is big or small requires work and attention.

Take a listen to get some tools for creating the life you love on purpose.

Healing Fear in Warm Water

If you’re like many adults, you’ve been frustrated or embarrassed that you weren’t free to swim “like everybody else.” Half of adults can’t swim, like you! We meet them all the time. They’ve tried every system, including the traditional programs, with no success.

Since 1999, we’ve helped hundreds of adults overcome their fear and discomfort in water with our proven system built on the Foundations of Change. Our Foundations of Change program uses the nuts and bolts of mindfulness to address the root of the problem and will transform the way you feel and think about water for the rest of your life.
