We've Helped Hundreds

46% of adults in the United States are afraid of water over their heads. (Gallup Poll)

If you’re like many adults, you’ve been frustrated or embarrassed that you weren’t free to swim “like everybody else.” Half of adults can’t swim, like you! We meet them all the time. They’ve tried every system, including the traditional programs, with no success.

In 2019 Cori Myka, owner of Orca Swim School set out to develop an online program that would lay the foundation of change and learning for adult non-swimmers that could be started before they got to the pool. After 20 years of teaching adult non-swimmers how to find comfort and safety in the water, Cori knew that the learning process was 80% mental and 20% physical. She also knew that if students could begin the mental journey before they ever came to the pool they would be that much more prepared for their in-person learning experience and that is how the Foundations of Change program was born.

It is only after changing old thoughts, beliefs and patterns of action that one builds a new foundation in for real learning to happen – this is what the Foundations of Change program does, it helps you build a solid foundation.

With that new solid foundation in place, you can begin to create the change in all areas of your life, you will become empowered to be the driver of change in so many areas of your life.

Foundations of Change

At Orca Swim School, we focus on adult swimmers who may have experienced a problem while in the water or for those adults who missed vital pieces of the learning process. Learning to swim is 80% mental and 20% physical, which is why our Foundations of Change program starts off online to help you build a foundation of the mental work required before starting your in-pool lessons.

“Start taking action now and create the change that you want in your life!”

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

Adult students that come through the program at Orca Swim School will experience a
180-degree change in their perception of being in water.

The 3-Day Learn to Swim Retreat was transformational. I went from being anxious and tense in the water to neutral and relaxed. I better understand how my body moves in water, how to conserve energy, how to get air when I need it, and am building healthy foundational skills. I highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to feel safer in water, and more confident in their body and its capacities in water.

First of all, this has been the best learning experience I have had as a new beginner swimmer. I was skeptical at first but so glad I took the leap of faith to enroll. I just competed Foundations 1 classes this past weekend with instructor Karen who is phenomenal! I would also like to acknowledge Jack who helped out the first week. The class number is only 4 people which makes learning easy and enjoyable. I am more comfortable in the water and will continue building on the skills I have acquired. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for adult swimming classes to check out Orca Swim! Thank you again!

Not the typical swim class. It was guided mindfulness while engaging with water. Fun, educational, and empowering. In the end, we all became swimmers!! Amazing!

One of the best experience I had learning something. The style of teaching and learning is something I will take beyond just learning how to swim. The swimming lessons, aren't just, here are some movements now copy and swim. It's more focused on being calm in, and having neutral feelings about water. The rest come naturally after you learn how to be calm. Definitely recommend it to everyone! Jac and Becky were the best teachers ever! Tysm.

I had a session today with Olivia and am incredibly incredibly grateful. Olivia was absolutely amazing, very calm, very patient, very clear in her explanations on trying things, and wonderful at stepping me through things. I had a bit of a teary moment at one stage because I genuinely enjoyed something that has both been impossible for me and just plain terrifying for 24 years and even though it was very small it felt like a world of progress in just 90 minutes. This was a life-changing moment for me in just one session, I have no words... (which is a first for me because I usually use 20 words when 2 would have been sufficient!). Thank you again, and even though I did tonight please express my deepest gratitude to Olivia as well and I hope to see her again.

My daughter learned to swim at OSS and seeing her succeed gave me hope to reconnect with swimming as well. I took the Foundations 1 class, which surpassed my expectations and allowed me to gain a new perspective on my experiences in the water. Our instructor, Olivia, helped us learn what to expect and figure out ways that allowed us to find comfort in the water. I felt like each session helped us fine-tune skills in a way that worked for each of us, in fact, I learned quite a bit from my classmates and their experiences too. So glad we found this swim school!
